Herman M. Ellis, MD, MPH, FACPM, AOAAM

Dr. Ellis is a native of Louisiana and was part of the Great Migration when he left for New York City (Harlem) in the 7th grade.

He is presently practicing preventive addiction medicine, primary care (with experience in using alternative treatments combined with traditional treatments) emphasizing mental health treatment at RamazziniOHS, a 100% telemedicine practice.

RamazziniOHS also provides group therapy and holistic health coaching.

Dr. Ellis is the former Medical Director (Clinical Operations) of the Delaware Division of Public Health and continues to provide expertise on population infectious diseases.

Dr. Ellis is board certified in addiction medicine, public health, and general preventive medicine. Dr. Ellis has active licenses in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Ellis’ peers elected him to two terms of the Board of Regents of the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM); representing board certified public health physicians in the United States and Canada. He received recognition from the Delaware Assembly for his work with the American College of Preventive Medicine.

He is the former Chief Physician Executive of the Delaware Department of Corrections where he began and oversaw the opiate withdrawal and maintenance treatment programs.

He is a former New Jersey State Epidemiologist and Assistant Commissioner of Health and Senior Services; and the former Chief of Epidemiology for the United States Navy's Atlantic Fleet.

Dr. Ellis is the founding chair and associate professor of the Department of Occupational and Preventive Medicine at Meharry Medical College, Nashville. He also served 10+ years as an assistant professor with the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Columbia University School of Public Health.

Dr. Ellis served as Clinical Division Director (with Top-Secret Clearance) of the Federal Occupational Health (FOH), a division within the US Department of Health and Human Services with a budget of $115MM and 1500 employees serving more than one million federal employees from 250+ federal agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service and Secret Service.

Dr. Ellis served as a physician executive at three Fortune 500 companies and was the Chief Medical Officer at one of them.

Dr. Ellis is a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine and the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
